"I took the same class two years ago and The Laramie Project was the subject of my final presentation as well. Aside from that experience, I didn't actually know much about the incident. I remember a vague mention of it growing up but I was too young to actually hear anything that was happening. The film itself did affect in a big way. I wasn't out at the time and watching it with my group and then presenting on it was a very frightening and emotional thing for me. I was moved very much by the film, but at the same time I could see the obvious bias that it showed, demonizing some of the people of that town and such. The events of that night were horrific, but mainly I just feel a deep sorrow for the two men involved in it. It's so unclear as to what actually happened that led up to [Matthew Shepard's] death, and the subject is so tied up with the subject of gay rights that I am very skeptic to believe any of the things that either side had to say."
